Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

Best Careers 2009: Librarian

After browsing the U.S. News & World Report article claiming Librarian is a best job, based my personal experience I'm inclined to:
Agree
Kinda, sorta agree
Disagree
Violently disagree
Give a qualified answer with explanation in the comments since it's not so black and white

pollcode.com free polls

(Oh, and with pollcodes only one person per day can vote from each location, so those who work in the same organization--not just my location, but the entire organization--that I do will need to vote from home.)

But, of course, we are voting from home. We are good librarians who do not read or post to personal blogs at work.
Personally, it's been the best job for me.

I voted to disagree. Thing is, I love my job. I enjoy coming to work more often than not, I delight in my coworkers, and I love the variety. When I can, I very much want to pursue my MLS.

I do not, however, think that it's a catch-all career for any- and everyone. The pay is adequate, but not commensurate with the expense required to be acknowledged and respected. Good jobs are hard to find and the competition is fierce. The classic, mild-mannered librarian will be eaten alive by more agressive and cutthroat competitors.

It's a good career, but it's far from being the "best" career.
