Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

Define: "Mutually Exclusive"

I'm always amazed by how many people don't seem to understand the concept of "city." They'll fill out their library card application and write Overland Park or Lenexa or Shawnee or whatever for their address, then answer yes to one or even all of the following questions in the next section:

Do you live within the city limits of Olathe, Kansas?
Do you live within the limits of the Kansas City, MO School district?
Do you live within the city limits of Kansas City, Kansas?

If they have to list their address, why do they have the follow up questions? Isn't that...redundant?

It is and it's going away on the revised application. From my understanding, it was a purely statistical thing, that if they didn't live in our service area we wanted to know what area library system serves their address, and we're not always familiar with the other systems' boundaries and assumed our patrons would be (they aren't, for the most part).
