Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

A few days ago some friends on Facebook shared this Global Rich List calculator. I liked it, but was especially intrigued by the source: Sociological Images. Self-description: Sociological Images encourages people to exercise and develop their sociological imaginations with discussions of compelling visuals that span the breadth of sociological inquiry. This Update post gives a pretty good representation of the types of things they do. Lots of examinations of the use of gender, race, and other social categories in media images. For an example, a look at some gender stereotypes in this mock ad for the Shii gaming system:
