Thought About Voter Fraud
An anti-immigration lawyer is running for Secretary of State in Kansas, and his whole platform is pretty much just that issue tied into voter fraud. The conservative attack on ACORN was all voter fraud. More and more that seems to be the story, voter fraud. Many of the recent ones are about Republican and Tea Party trainings for concerned citizens who want to watch polling locations for apparent fraud and put a stop to it.
Part of the story here seems to be worries about intimidation of legitimate voters--in their attempts to stop cheating, they're heading into cheating territory of their own. It's possible some of that's even intentional at some level. But the thing I see in it is that these groups must be so convinced that they're right and just and the logical conclusion of any fair-minded "American," that the only way they'll ever lose the vote is through cheating. All "real" voters will vote with them, so the idea of a legitimate difference of opinion isn't even a valid concern. It's just the clueless and a few cheating liberal radicals--oh, and all those illegitimate immigrants--who are the threat.
