Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

Stuff

We went to see the Iraq War documentary No End In Sight last night. There wasn’t really anything surprising or much I didn’t already know to some extent, but it was still a disturbing experience. The cavalier lack of concern and overall incompetence was horrific. How could these leaders not care to do a better job when they are responsible for the lives of millions? Mistake after mistake that have destroyed a nation and created untold hatred for ours. And we’re thinking of getting aggressive with Iran?

This is an 8-5 job except that we all share the evenings and weekends. My normal Wed. is 12-9. Tomorrow I’m also working 12-9 so our youth services person is free to do school visits in the morning. And today in the middle of the morning someone called in sick, which left me taking the afternoon off so I could cover her this evening as well. Three nights in a row. I’d say “uck,” except that it was an absolutely brilliant day and I spent the afternoon soaking up the sun while running the dogs at the park. That was a nice bonus, so I can’t really complain. My mood for the day started off kind of grey again, but dramatically improved and now I feel better.

This is my last full week as manager. I’m ready to get back to a job that has elements I enjoy and look forward to. I don’t dislike what I’m doing now, but nothing about it excites me and it’s hard to motivate to do the extra things when the basics are taken care of. I enjoy the tasks involved in being a youth services librarian much more so that my days are more pleasant and staying busy is easier precisely because I find it more stimulating. I’m hoping that my general mood about life will improve once I’m back to youth work.

It’ll be nice now that the sports news is no longer cluttered with useless updates about baseball. I’m keeping my fingers crossed because I can’t make myself really believe that it will actually happen, but I’m hoping KU and MU win out so their game is truly something. Both are ranked in the top ten now and could be even higher by then.
