Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

Reading? Not in Our School.

I had the opportunity to get away from the library and visit all of our 15 schools--2 districts plus the Catholic Diocese, elementary, middle, and high school, just in our location's service area. It was my first time visiting the new Catholic high school. Out in the newly developed/developing suburbs, definitely not hurting for money, really nice looking building. They started last year with just 9th graders, added another class this year, etc. Generally I try to get the librarian and principal information from websites and stay in contact through email, then add visits when I get a chance. I'd always had trouble figuring out the librarian/media specialist for this school, but figured it was due to the newness.

Today I stopped by the office and asked is so-and-so still the librarian? No, she's just a part time teacher. I'm the technology director and I'm kind of the media specialist. Kind of. For the few books we have. But we don't really do books because everything's online anymore. Said somewhat sheepishly and guiltily to a public librarian, but also somewhat dismissively and disdainfully.
