Through the Prism

After passing through the prism, each refraction contains some pure essence of the light, but only an incomplete part. We will always experience some aspect of reality, of the Truth, but only from our perspectives as they are colored by who and where we are. Others will know a different color and none will see the whole, complete light. These are my musings from my particular refraction.

For the Record, the Record's Been Set Straight

Last September I initiated a dialogue with author/illustrator Nathan Hale about his book Big Bad Ironclad! because the map in the endpapers mislabeled Kansas as a part of the Confederacy in the Civil War.  You can see the full story at Correcting Revisionist History.
All has been made better.  Mr. Hale traveled to my library for a special appearance, where he entertained, informed, and delighted a large group of kids and adults (and large groups of students at four schools the following day).  You can read more about it (with photos) at his blog: The Official Kansas Apology Ceremony.
You can read the mini-comic he made for the visit at his other blog with a search for "Bleeding Kansas" (and reading from the bottom up).

Nathan Hale is one cool guy.  I'm loving his Hazardous Tales series (book three is going to be Donner Dinner Party) and hoping he sees a lot of success.  I'll certainly be promoting him.

We had so much fun at this event and following the the story. We have our book and am most happy in some ways to have the bookplate instead of just a signature in the book. The kid has friended Mr. Hale on facebook. Yep, that much fun.
